Windy City Sports Report – 1/21/13

“The real glory is being knocked to your knees and then coming back. That’s real glory.” -Vince Lombardi

Hello sports fans, Carlos here with your Windy City Sports Report. In this edition, the Bulls keep rolling; the Bears get their man; we finally have hockey.

The return of Derrick Rose is near, but the Bulls are too busy winning games to be concerned about that. They had four games this week, trying to gain on the Central-leading Indiana Pacers. They played the overtime game this week, having three of them in a row. Read the rest of this entry »

Windy City Sports Report – 10/22/12

Hello sports fans, Carlos here again with your Windy City Sports Report. In this issue, how are the Bulls looking in preseason? Are the Bears sleeping in the den? Is the ice melted for the Blackhawks?

On Tuesday, the Bulls were at home to face the Milwaukee Bucks. Nate Robinson started for Kirk Hinrich, who did not play due to a sore thumb, and he played flawless basketball. He led the Bulls with 24 points and 13 assists, and more importantly, zero turnovers. Rip Hamilton pitched in 23 points and 3 steals in a 100-94 victory.

Bulls Win Battle But May Have Lost War

by Carlos Nazario

This past Saturday the Chicago Bulls took their first step in getting their 7th championship in franchise history by beating the Philadelphia 76ers 103-91 to take a 1-0 lead in the opening round of the 2012 NBA Playoffs.

That victory might have been the costliest one in their history and put a serious dent in their run. In the 4th quarter, with about 1:22 to go in the game, Derrick Rose jump stepped and went up for a shot. As he did, he heard a pop. He came down and immediately clutched his left knee. Even though the Bulls cruised to victory, the United Center and all of Chicago was holding their collective breaths waiting for word on Rose’s condition.

Bulls bench significant again in beating Heat

by Carlos Nazario

The Chicago Bulls met the Miami Heat last night for the third time this season. Again, there was a playoff atmosphere, and again the Bulls bench came through and played a key role in winning the game, 96-86, in a thrilling overtime game.

Unlike the last game, reigning MVP Derrick Rose played, but it felt as if he did not. He tallied 25 minutes, but shot 1-13 for 2 points. He went scoreless in the first half for the first time in his pro career, and the second half was not much better.

Backup CJ Watson had Rose’s back. He had 16 points, 9 assists and 3 steals. He also hit the game-tying trey to tie the game with 2.2 seconds left in the game. Carlos Boozer had a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds.

Bulls Show they are Road Warriors

by Carlos Nazario

Last Sunday, the Chicago Bulls finished up a grueling nine games in fourteen days road trip, the longest they will have this season. They lost to the Boston Celtics, but finished the trip 6-3.

It was pretty amazing they had such a good trip, considering they were without the services of Rip Hamilton for all but the opener against the Miami Heat, and were without the services of Derrick Rose for the last two games.

In the middle of that trip, the Bulls did something that has never been done in the history of the NBA-they won four consecutive games on the road by 20 points or more. They beat Milwaukee (113-90), New Jersey (108-87), New Orleans (90-67), and Charlotte (95-64) on their way to history.

Should Bulls and fans be concerned?

by Carlos Nazario

Derrick Rose has battled guards, forwards, and centers. He has battled double teams, picks and rolls, and zone defenses.

He has also battled injuries. He missed 5 games due to a toe injury, and now missed the last two games because of a back injury.

This latest injury is something that may cause the Chicago Bulls some concern.

The Bulls have just finished a nine game in fourteen days road trip and apparently Rose has had the back discomfort throughout the trip. “It’s been hurting the whole trip. I just played through it. It tended to get worse after every game. I was really worried about it. But I’m trying to stay positive. I don’t know what the diagnosis is. I just know my back is not right.”
