Hump Day Thoughts on Sports and Stuff – 1/16/13

by Steve Farace

Hey all – did ya miss me since last week? No? You don’t have to be so direct. Anyway, I am back again for another hump day potpourri. Here we go!

Why does everyone seem to open up to Oprah? What is it about her? The latest was Lance Armstrong. He apparently has come clean about being on performance enhancing drugs. What is it with these people? Do they not think they are going to get caught? I think it’s absurd. Not only are they cheaters, but they are thieves as well. They have stolen money by using a fake body and fake conditioning. Listen, to me cycling is not a sport – it is simply what people do for recreation – sorry to offend anyone, but this is my article. The man made a ton of money during his career and now we are finding out that he has done even worse. He has basically stomped on all of the people who knew about what he was doing. People tried to step in and he actually sued people because of the “outrageous allegations”. Are you kidding me?? Wow…just wow. I can’t wait to see all of the repercussions.

Windy City Sports Report – 1/7/13

Hello sports fans, Carlos here with the first Windy City Sports Report for 2013. In this edition – who will be the Bears’ next coach? The Bulls beat WHO and lost to WHOM? Is hockey really coming back?

Well, Saturday was the Wild Card round in the NFL playoffs. The Bears were prepping for…oh wait, that did not happen, did it?

Nope, it did not happen. The Minnesota Vikings beat the Packers (yet another reason to hate the Packers) to grab the last spot in the NFC playoff bracket. Instead of traveling to San Francisco to face the 49ers, Lovie Smith got his traveling papers out of Chicago.

Miami Heat Offseason

by Carl Cabey

Miami Heat Off-season Needs

The NBA champion Miami Heat only have one draft pick (1st rd 27th overall) and limited cap space to spend this off-season to help improve the team.  However if they play their cards right they can again have another very successful off-season.  Here are some directions they can go this summer:

Hump Day Thoughts on Sports – 6/20/12

by Steve Farace

How odd is it going to feel to have July 4th fall on a Wednesday this year? Usually we can’t wait for the long weekend and a nice fireworks display at some point during the weekend. Now it is just one odd day out of the middle of the week, and what do you do about your work week? Well, if you’re smart you take the 5th and the 6th off and make it a 5 day weekend. That’s exactly what I had planned before a new job came along. Now I’m stuck in the same situation of having a random day off in the middle of the week! Alright…let’s get to it:

Miami Heat: News and Notes 3/19/12

by Carl Cabey

After a roller-coaster week the date for the Miami Heat to watch is March 23.  That is the final day players can be bought out of their contracts and sign with another team.  Miami is in the market for a center that can help clog up the middle and pull down some rebounds when playing the bigger teams (aka Chicago) in the playoffs.  The Miami Heat are very hopeful Chris Kaman can be bought out of his contract with New Orleans and come down to Miami.  Kaman is top on the list of who Miami wants to get bought out and sign however there is no guarantee he is bought out of his contract and even if he is there will be competition for him.  After him names like Ronny Turiaf and Dan Gadzuric who will just be another big body that may not see much of the court.  Kyrylo Fesenko is a name that the Heat looked into earlier in the season and while he’s still a possibility some say he is getting back into playing shape and the Heat don’t have the time to let someone play into shape like Curry and Pittman at this point of the season.

Without Rose Bulls Send Heat Big Message

by Carlos Nazario

On January 29th the Chicago Bulls met the Miami Heat for the first time since being knocked out of the 2011 Eastern Conference Finals. It was a hard-fought, tough game that came down to the end (again). Derrick Rose had a couple of chances of winning the game for the Bulls but missed some easy shots and free throws. He vowed next time those shots would go in.

On Wednesday, the day many Bulls fans looked forward to, the people were going to see if he was right. Well, it did not work out that way. In the previous game against the New York Knicks, Rose landed awkwardly on a drive, and tweaked his groin; tweaked it enough to keep him out of the biggest game of the season.
