In this action-packed mystery thriller, Academy Award winner, Denzel Washington stars as Whip Whitaker, a seasoned airline pilot, who miraculously crash lands his plane after a mid-air catastrophe, saving nearly every soul on board. After the crash, Whip is hailed as a hero, but as more is learned, more questions than answers arise as to who or what was really at fault and what really happened on that plane? — (C) Official Site
I wouldn’t necessarily say this is an action packed thriller like the description states. It is fascinating to see Denzel go down that dark rabbit hole. Flight starts off a tad slow but Washington’s performance alone is worth the price of admission.
I’m a huge Denzel fan. If he is in it, Steve will watch it. I believe Scotty already bought this one so I will be borrowing this from my good buddy.
Here Comes the Boom
In the comedy Here Comes the Boom, former collegiate wrestler Scott Voss (Kevin James) is a 42-year-old apathetic biology teacher in a failing high school. When cutbacks threaten to cancel the music program and lay off its teacher (Henry Winkler,) Scott begins to raise money by moonlighting as a mixed martial arts fighter. Everyone thinks Scott is crazy – most of all the school nurse, Bella (Salma Hayek) – but in his quest, Scott gains something he never expected as he becomes a sensation that rallies the entire school. — (C) Official Site
Don’t get me wrong, Kevin James seems like a likeable guy. I’ve seen a handful of King of Queens and for the most part I enjoyed the popular TV show. But I can’t think of one movie I’ve seen that he has either starred or had a supporting role in that was worth going to see. Here Comes the Boom is terrible.
Nothing good has ever come from a Kevin James movie. Not even if Salma Hayek is in it. Stay away from this one at all costs.
Alex Cross follows the young homicide detective/psychologist (Tyler Perry), from the worldwide best-selling novels by James Patterson, as he meets his match in a serial killer (Matthew Fox). The two face off in a high-stakes game of cat and mouse, but when the mission gets personal, Cross is pushed to the edge of his moral and psychological limits in this taut and exciting action thriller. — (C) Lionsgate
Tyler Perry just can’t run away from Madea. It was a terrible move to cast Perry in Alex Cross. I’m sure LionsGate hate hoped for a potential franchise with the popular James Patterson character, but they have effectively ruined any chance for the general public to ever go see another movie with Mr. Perry as Cross. It’s that bad. Either do a reboot or take this one to the junkyard.
Holy typecast, Batman! Stay away!
Peter Pan also comes out this week. I didn’t bother adding it because A) Everyone has seen Peter Pan and knows what it is and B) My eyes burn from the constant headache of launching the new website. Either way, grab Peter Pan for your little ones. One of the top 3 Disney animated films ever. Next week we have a little bondage with Skyfall, teen angst in The Perks of Being a Wallflower, The Man with the Iron Fists, The Sessions, and Silent Hill: Revelation. Have a great week everyone!
