Movie 43: Review

I wanted to check out Movie 43 from the first time I saw the trailer. Boy, was I wrong.

There are so many things wrong with this movie that I find it difficult to figure out where to start. First of all, there are too many things going on in the movie. It is actually a group of short stories that Dennis Quaid’s character is pitching to a movie executive played by Greg Kinnear. It is short film after short film as Quaid is shot down time after time. The humor is over the top and it is bad. It is really bad.

I will not bore you with each short story, but I will give you a few of the highlights here:

– there is a story in which there is a man who has a set of testicles on his neck
– there is a story in which a teenager is being home-schooled by his parents (I thought this part would be funny, but it was just awkward)
– there is a story in which a teenage girl gets her period for the first time (I thought this one had some potential, but it was unfunny)

There were two that I thought were a bit funny and that was the basketball scene in which the motivation for the team was that they were black and the other was superhero speed dating. I’m a fan of Jason Sudeikis and he made the superhero speed dating part worth watching.

There is a reason that this one finished 7th at the box office in its opening weekend. It made all of $5 million. There seems to be a trend for these movies with a bunch of stars thrown together. New Years Eve and Valentine’s Day both finished at less than 20% on Rotten Tomatoes. Movie 43 is currently sitting at 5%. This critic doesn’t even think it should be that high. Do not waste any of your money on this movie – there are many alternatives out there!

Final Word – 1 Star
