Killing Them Softly
Gerard Butler, Jessica Biel, Uma Thurman, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Dennis Quaid star in Playing for Keeps, a romantic comedy about a charming, down-on-his luck former soccer star (Butler) who returns home to put his life back together. Looking for a way to rebuild his relationship with his son, he gets roped into coaching the boy’s soccer team. But his attempts to finally become an “adult” are met with hilarious challenges from the attractive “soccer moms” who pursue him at every turn. — (C) Film District
On the surface, Playing for Keeps looks like it could be a half decent rom-com worthy of a date night pilgrimage to the movie theater. The problem with Playing for Keeps is that it has less than zero chance of sticking around in theaters more than a couple of weeks. So why should you waste your hard earn money on seeing it the movie theater? The answer..you shouldn’t. With films like Skyfall, Rise of the Guardians, Lincoln, and Silver Linings Playbook already in theaters and a slew of good movies coming out for the holidays, if you aren’t going to see a holdover this weekend, you might as well wait for next week.
The lady in your life will be the one that will want to head out and see this one. My advice to the guys out there – give it a shot – it might help out under the tree later on this month. Try to enjoy it – ya get Jessica Biel so that’s a plus! Scotty’s idea isn’t so bad either.
Believe it or not, that is all for this week. That’s one of the reasons we are posting this up early. Why keep everyone in suspense. is anyone really waiting for Playing for Keeps? Next week we have The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey as our big release, while Oscar contenders like Silver Linings Playbook expand to more screens. Have a great weekend everyone.
