Hump Day Thoughts on Sports – 10/17/12

Did you ever get pressured into doing something? Of course you have. You have been pressured into doing a lot of things. Some legal and some not. I am being attacked left and right because I have yet to watch The Walking Dead! Get off my back already! I know it is a great show and it is breaking records left and right, but give me a chance to get to it, will ya! Scott has been the worst of them all – he attacked me last week and then again on yesterday’s podcast! I made a guarantee on the podcast to watch the first two episodes of the series by next week. We shall see.

So there were some rumblings today that the Yankees were already speaking to the Marlins about a potential trade that would send Alex Rodriguez to Miami and the talks were that the Yankees would be picking up all of the remaining money on A-Rod’s contract. First of all, I am pretty sure they can’t be talking about a trade just yet. Unless they just want to announce a trade as soon as they lose to the Tigers in the ALCS. A-Rod has done nothing and is now riding the bench. Is this something the Marlins would do? I don’t see why not – they have a history of making bad moves and there would be little risk involved if they are not paying for him. Who would have thought you would see Alex Rodriguez and Jose Reyes on the same side of the infield outside of NY?

Hockey = White. Hot. Garbage. Yes, I’m still going with this one.

Since my last hump day article, Derek Jeter went down with a fractured ankle. This doesn’t have an impact on his attempt to catch Pete Rose for the all-time hit record because he wasn’t going to do it anyway. Sorry to disappoint you, Yankee fans, but it’s the truth and you should know it (and hear it from a Mets fan).

What do you all think about Philip Rivers? Do you think he is elite? Or do you think he is in the middle of the pack? He has never won the big game and he has had some very good players on his side of the ball. I just don’t think he has the decision-making skills that it takes to be elite. Honestly, I see him more in the category of a Tony Romo than that of the other two quarterbacks that were picked in the same year as him. Those two are of course Big Ben and Eli.

As the NBA gets closer to getting underway, we have had the first casualty of the season. Kevin Love of the Timberwolves broke his hand and will be out for 6-8 weeks. Another casualty is the pre-game ritual of some players. Players will now have 90 seconds from the player announcements until the opening tip and that will cut down on all of the handshaking and things like the Lebron James chalk toss, although Lebron said that he will find a way to work it in. The NBA is obviously trying to cut down on the amount of time the players take to start the game, but come on, what a bunch of kill joys. Let the players do what they want to do – except Lebron. I’m kidding.

My pick for game of the week in week 7 is going to be the Ravens going to Houston to face the Texans. The Ravens have not been able to stop the run so far and they might be facing the best in the business this week in Arian Foster. I think the Texans win this game pretty easily, but it is still worthy of game of the week.

That’s about all for this week! Hope your hump day is going well and that you’re on your way to an enjoyable weekend! If I missed something or if you’d like to battle it out on something you didn’t agree with feel free to leave a comment!

Talk to you guys next hump day!
