Hump Day Thoughts on Sports – 9/26/12

26 Sep

by Steve Farace

So I was standing in line at my local Publix Supermarket and I just happened to see a DVD movie for sale. It was Titanic. If you recall, the 3D version just came out a few weeks ago and it was $19.99 at Best Buy. This was the DVD copy of it and it was the SAME PRICE! Who prices these things at Publix? I always see outrageous DVD prices there at the checkout lines, but this was ridiculous! C’mon man!

So…800lb elephant in the room, eh? These replacement refs are horrendous and I’ve been saying this was going to cause problems since before the preseason started. This is a complete disaster. In week one, a Cowboys defender got away with a blatant pass interference play on Victor Cruz of my Giants in the end-zone. The Giants lost by a touchdown. Poor Packers. I don’t really mind that they lost, but that did take a victory away from me in last weeks picks on this brilliant website. Ah well.

Hockey = White. Hot. Garbage.

More drama in Miami. This time with Heath Bell and Ozzie Guillen. Look, just because you don’t respect your boss doesn’t mean that you have to make that public knowledge. Why do that to yourself? You have a contract that cannot be traded because you stink at your job and now you will be forced to stay with the team next year and be a $9 million a year 7th inning and mop up guy. Congrats.

Well, the Braves didn’t choke this year. While they did clinch a wild card spot last night in a walk-off against the Marlins, they did not clinch a playoff spot. That is because there are 2 wild card teams this year and several teams are fighting for that as I type this. That being said, the Braves still have a chance to choke this year.

Miguel Cabrera is a freak of nature in the batters box. He was robbed of homerun #43 tonight, but have no fear, there is always tomorrow. That man is going to win the triple crown and then the MVP. I also happen to think his Tigers catch the White Sox for the AL Central division title.

Congrats to David Wright of my Mets – he is now the all-time hits leader for them. What does the future hold for him? Hopefully a long-term contract to keep him home. We shall see.

That’s about all for this week! Hope your hump day is going well and that you’re on your way to an enjoyable weekend! If I missed something or if you’d like to battle it out on something you didn’t agree with feel free to leave a comment!

Talk to you guys next hump day!
