Hump Day Thoughts on Sports – 9/5/12

05 Sep

by Steve Farace

What a night if you’re a football fan and a Democrat, eh? The Democratic National Convention and the Giants/Cowboys opening up the season. What is one to do?? Well, it’s about 10pm so, by now you know what you chose. Unless of course you will be switching over to see Bill Clinton’s speech. Well, no room for politics here…let’s get to it!

The Giants and Cowboys are off to a very exciting 7-3 game at the half. Yawn. The Cowboys just scored at the end of the half to take the lead and to be honest, both teams look to still be in preseason form. Yawn. Hopefully, this game picks up a bit in second half and the Giants pull away. Wait…did I just say that? Oops…

The Yankees have allowed both the Orioles and Rays back into the race…are you kidding me?!? They have fallen victim to their surprising lack of offense and their sub par pitching performances. A-Rod is back now – will he be able to make a difference? I just don’t see one man (especially an aging man who has his body breaking down from steroids) making that much of a difference. Stay tuned as the Yankees complete their collapse in the weeks to come.

There are tons of interesting races still going on. Both wild card races are insanely close and there are several division races that are crazy good right now. The AL East where the Yankees lead the Orioles by 1 game and the Rays by 2 1/2. The AL Central where the White Sox lead the Tigers by 1 game. The AL West where the Rangers lead the Athletics by 4 1/2 games. The NL West where the Giants lead the Dodgers by 4 1/2. This is all setting up another exciting final month to the baseball season. Except for my Mets. Sad face. Don’t judge me.

Tony Romo sucks.

With the start of the NFL season tonight comes the start of the fantasy football season. Did you get who you want or did you draft like a buffoon? Did you grab the sleepers that are going to be important to your team in order to win that trophy at the end of the season? Are you in so many leagues that you can’t remember who you have in each league? That’s the way to be. Good luck out there! Unless of course you’re in one of my league in which case I will CRUSH you.

The Cowboys just scored again and lead 14-3. FML.

That’s about all for this week! Hope your hump day is going well and that you’re on your way to an enjoyable weekend! If I missed something or if you’d like to battle it out on something you didn’t agree with feel free to leave a comment!

Talk to you guys next hump day!
