Hump Day Thoughts on Sports – 8/22/12

22 Aug

by Steve Farace

If you’re like me, you have friends telling you that you should be watching this show and that show everyday. I’ve heard it all from Breaking Bad to Game of Thrones to The Walking Dead. It really puts the pressure on you if you haven’t watched a show from the very beginning. Then again, how do you know a show is going to be good from the very beginning? The best two shows that I have watched over the last decade I have had to play catch up on. Those shows are 24 and Dexter. Now, before you jump all over me I am almost done with season 3 of Breaking Bad and I have not started watching Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead or Mad Men. I will get there though…maybe.

So…who remembers when Davey Johnson said that if his team doesn’t make the playoffs then he should be fired? Oh and that was back in spring training! His Nationals now have the best record in the National League and is looking like they will make some noise come playoff time. What do you guys think about Strasburg? I happen to think that they are making a HUGE mistake if they shut him down. They would be assuming that this opportunity would come along again. Dan Marino played in Super Bowl 19 and never made it back. This coming Super Bowl will be Super Bowl 46.

Melky Cabrera and Bartolo Colon have both been suspended by MLB for 50 games for their use of performance enhancing drugs. Just a couple of more examples of corrupt baseball players. Melky was having a career year and on pace to get a nice contract for himself. Now, he might be lucky to get a one year deal next year. I’m not sure I would be surprised to hear any name in baseball connected to steroids. Well, as much as I dislike him as a Met fan, I would be shocked to hear Derek Jeter was taking PED’s. Skip Bayless wouldn’t be shocked and he admitted that this morning. One thing is for sure, Bayless isn’t afraid to raise concerns or potential issues with anyone in sports.

The Giants and Jets played in second annual MetLife Bowl. This one was not much of a contest as the Giants beat the Jets 26-3. The Jets found out a lot about their quarterback situation as both Sanchez and Tebow found themselves on their backs more often than on their feet. The season will be starting in just a couple of weeks. ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL??? Oh…that guy got fired, didn’t he? Ooops.

With the football season coming up, we will also get the newest edition of Madden Football. I will be taking on all comers with my Giants. Anyone ready to take on the challenge? If you play on the Playstation 3, bring it on. Spydey129 is my user name…be prepared to lose. Thanks.

That’s about all for this week! Hope your hump day is going well and that you’re on your way to an enjoyable weekend! If I missed something or if you’d like to battle it out on something you didn’t agree with feel free to leave a comment!

Talk to you guys next hump day!
