The Amazing Spider-Man

The Amazing Spider-Man is the story of Peter Parker (Garfield), an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben (Sheen) and Aunt May (Field). Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents’ disappearance – leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr. Curt Connors (Ifans), his father’s former partner. As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors’ alter-ego, The Lizard, Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero. — (C) Sony

Scott’s Take  – 4 Stars

I will be honest with you, I wanted nothing to do with another Spider-Man reboot.  I mean it’s been 5 freaking years since Sam Raimi’s shitfest of a movie Spider-Man 3.  Let me eat some humble pie.  The Amazing Spider-Man is flat-out awesome! Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker made Tobey Maguire look like an actor from a Lifetime movie of the week…and I love Tobey Maguire.  Emma Stone makes my heart thump and Marc Foster has just given us a kick ass Marvel movie that gives The Avengers a huge run for it’s money as best Marvel movie of all time.  I have already seen this twice and I recommend you skip the 3D version. The Amazing Spider-Man is a love story on steroids and I suggest you get in line early.

Steve’s Take

Spider-Man is my favorite and with all of talk about how disappointing this movie was going to be, I was really excited to hear that Scott enjoyed it! I’m going to go see it a little later on tonight!

Katy Perry:Part of Me

A 3Dmotion picture event movie,Katy Perry: Part of Me is a backstage pass, front row seat and intimate look at the fun, glamorous, heartbreaking, inspiring, crazy, magical, passionate, and honest mad diary of Katy. — (C) Paramoun.

Scott’s Take

Go. See. Spider-Man!

Steve’s Take

This is nonsense. On top of that, this is trending at 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. Come on, America!

Savages

Laguna Beach entrepreneurs Ben (Johnson), a peaceful and charitable Buddhist, and his closest friend Chon (Kitsch), a former Navy SEAL and ex-mercenary, run a lucrative, homegrown industry-raising some of the best marijuana ever developed. They also share a one-of-a-kind love with the extraordinary beauty Ophelia (Lively). Life is idyllic in their Southern California town…until the Mexican Baja Cartel decides to move in and demands that the trio partners with them. When the merciless head of the BC, Elena (Hayek), and her brutal enforcer, Lado (Del Toro), underestimate the unbreakable bond among these three friends, Ben and Chon-with the reluctant, slippery assistance of a dirty DEA agent (Travolta)-wage a seemingly unwinnable war against the cartel. — (C) Universal

Scott’s Take

I can’t wait to see Oliver Stone’s Savages.  For some reason every time I see the trailer, it reminds me of Billy Corben’s Cocaine Cowboys. I don’t really know why, maybe it’s because I’ve seen Cocaine Cowboys 2,239 times.  Oh yeah, Blake Lively is hot.

Steve’s Take

Savages had me at hello. Guys round-up your boys and go see this one while your ladies are seeing Magic Mike.

Next Week

That’s all we have for this week.  Next week we have Ice Age and Red Lights! Happy 4th of July! Have a great weekend!
