Men in Black 3
In Men in Black 3, Agents J (Will Smith) and K (Tommy Lee Jones) are back…in time. J has seen some inexplicable things in his 15 years with the Men in Black, but nothing, not even aliens, perplexes him as much as his wry, reticent partner. But when K’s life and the fate of the planet are put at stake, Agent J will have to travel back in time to put things right. J discovers that there are secrets to the universe that K never told him — secrets that will reveal themselves as he teams up with the young Agent K (Josh Brolin) to save his partner, the agency, and the future of humankind. — (C) Sony
I absolutely hated the second installment of the MIB franchise. It felt like an obvious cash grab. It lacked in story telling and run time. I guess that experience has left a bitter taste in my mouth because I don’t expect much from MIB3. Who knows? Maybe I will be pleasantly surprised.
For me, everything that Will Smith has turned to gold. Well, except for Wild Wild West – that was a clunker. While I’m not dying to see this one, I won’t refuse to see it either. If you have enjoyed the previous movies in the series then you should definitely go for it.
Chernobyl Diaries is an original story from Oren Peli, who first terrified audiences with his groundbreaking thriller, Paranormal Activity. The film follows a group of six young vacationers who, looking to go off the beaten path, hire an “extreme” tour guide. Ignoring warnings, he takes them into the city of Pripyat, the former home to the workers of the Chernobyl nuclear reactor, but a deserted town since the disaster more than 25 years ago. After a brief exploration of the abandoned city, however, the group soon finds themselves stranded, only to discover that they are not alone… — (C) Warner Bros.
I will be the first to admit that Chernobyl Diaries has some very creepy images that have me at the very least intrigued. My main problem with the film is that I’m so sick and tired of the “found footage” genre. The Blair Witch Project started a slew of B grade footage films that are neither scary or involving. I’m going to give Diaries a chance just because that mannequin looking little girl in the trailer creeps me the fuck out.
I’m with Scotty on this one. This genre really does nothing for me, but I don’t really like to disregard specific movies because of their genre. If you’ve liked movies like Blair Witch and Paranormal Activity then this one is for you.
That’s all we have going wide this week. We will see if MIB3 can take down the mammoth Avengers in it’s 4th week. Next week we have Snow White and the Huntsman and the sequel to the ever entertaining Piranha with Piranha 3DD. Yes that is double D. Have a great weekend!
