Chris Farraday (Mark Wahlberg) long ago abandoned his life of crime, but his brother-in-law, Andy (Caleb Landry Jones), botches a drug deal for his ruthless boss, Tim Briggs (Giovanni Ribisi), Chris is forced back into doing what he does best- running contraband-to settle Andy’s debt. Things quickly fall apart and with only hours to reach the cash, Chris must use his rusty skills to successfully navigate a treacherous criminal network of brutal drug lords, cops and hit men before his wife, Kate (Kate Beckinsale), and sons become their target. — (C) Official Site

What is the difference between Contraband and a cheap straight to video B action movie? Contraband has Mark Wahlberg. I’m not sure I can recommend buying this film on Blu-Ray but it is definitely worth adding to your Netflix queue.
From director Ti West comes The Innkeepers. Set in the venerable Yankee Pedlar Inn, which is about to shut its doors for good after over a century of service. Believed by many to be one of New England’s “most haunted hotels,” the last remaining employees -Claire (Sara Paxton) and Luke (Pat Healy)- are determined to uncover proof before it shuts down for good. As the Inn’s final days draw near, odd guests check in as the pair of minimum wage “ghost hunters” begin to experience strange and alarming events that may ultimately cause them to be mere footnotes in the hotel’s long unexplained history. — (C) Magnet Releasing

Here is a movie that I feel tops every single Paranormal Activity film. It isn’t a “found footage” film and we aren’t constantly looking at video tape of people sleeping and walking around. The Innkeepers is an old fashioned carnival ride of the film that WILL actually give you the creeps!
That’s all for this week. Next week we have New Year’s Eve, Joyful Noise, and Haywire. Have a great week!
