Well, it is once again that time of year – Opening Day in baseball! This year there is only one game on Opening Day and that will be the Miami Marlins vs St. Louis Cardinals. This is the way it should be, as it is going to be a historic day in Miami. The Marlins finally have a home all to themselves and they went out and spent a ton of money during the off-season. The Marlins have everything going for them – a new stadium that is sure to be packed and a team that the city of Miami and all of South Florida can and should be proud to call theirs.
The Cardinals come into Miami on the heels of losing arguably the best player in the game in Albert Pujols. Pujols fled St. Louis for Los Angeles and is now with the Angels. The Marlins were in the mix for Albert and could you imagine how awkward that would have been for the Cardinals if they had to deal with him on Opening Day? The Cards have lost Chris Carpenter as well for an undisclosed amount of time with an injury and hope that bringing in Carlos Beltran will take some of the sting away from the Pujols loss.
There will be time to critique line-ups and pitching staffs and who needs to stay healthy for certain teams to compete, but that time is not today. Today it is time for Opening Night and hot dogs, peanuts and crackerjacks. It should be a perfect night in Miami, even with that hideous home-run contraption out in center field!
Let’s PLAY BALL!
