On a day when the NFL was playing their Conference Championships to decide what two teams would be advancing to the Super Bowl, down at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia the Boston Bruins were playing the Philadelphia Flyers. This game could be very well the preview of the Eastern Conference Finals. Both teams were coming off prior day games the day before. The game was very exciting and the defending Stanley Cup Champions, the Boston Bruins beat the Philadelphia Flyers, 6-5 in a shootout.

With the win the Bruins continue their dominance over the Flyers this season which has seen the Bruins with no loses to the Flyers. The Flyers who have been fighting the injury bug all season long went into the game with the injury bug continuing. The Flyers were playing the Bruins on Sunday with eight rookies in the lineup.

Scott Hartnell had his sixth career hat trick and continued his career best season. The Flyers did get a point from the contest which was very competitive and entertaining game. Scott Hartnell’s 25 goals on the season includes 13 on the power play which leads the NHL. Hartnell who had two goals in Saturday’s game against the New Jersey Devils had his first back to back games with multiple goals in his career. The Philadelphia Flyers overcame a 3-1 deficit when Scott Hartnell scored three goals in the second period. Flyers rookie Brayden Schenn played very well as did the rest of the rookies that were in the lineup. They played like they were veterans and they kept the team in the game.

The Boston Bruins scored on both of their shootout attempts which included the game winner by Tyler Seguin. For the Philadelphia Flyers in the shoot out, Matt Read and Wayne Simmonds missed on their attempts while Claude Giroux scored on his. The Flyers are 0-3 this season in shootouts and historically are not very good in shoot outs. The Flyers were ahead 4-3 and the Bruins tied it on David Krejci’s goal 1 minute, 19 seconds into the third period of the game. The Bruins took a 5-4 lead as Daniel Paille’s goal with 15:01 left in the game. The Flyers Max Talbot tied it for the Flyers scoring his second goal of the game.

The Flyers did play with a lot of energy but again the goalie situation is still a major problem for the team. Ilya Bryzgalov needs to show why the Flyers signed him during the off-season for all that money. It is very important that the Flyers goalie situation gets settled. Also important that they take advantage of their home ice.

Another thing the team has to overcome is the injuries. It is important that the team stay healthy. Lets see what this team does. They could be one and done or they could also go deep into the playoffs. The goalie situation is the main ingredient for success.
