Golden gets new deal from Canes

by Carl Cabey,

Al Golden came to terms on a four-year contract extension that will go through Feburary 1, 2020.  “ This is where I want to be and I’m glad to be a Hurricane” Golden said.  The contract puts an end to any rumors of Golden going to his alma mater Penn State. “I wanted to make a long-term commitment and end all the speculation.  This is a vital time for me to get out on the road and start recruiting for the future.”

The University of Miami is 100% committed to Al Golden.  Golden made Temple relevant in football and feels that he can make it through what ever sanctions Miami is hit with and turn the program back.  Golden in his first year as Miami’s head coach went (6-6(3-5ACC) Lets look at how some other coaches did in their first year:

Butch Davis: 8-3

Dennis Erickson: 10-2

Jimmy Johnson: 8-5

Howard Schnellenberger: 5-6

Nick Saban: 7-6

Gene Chizik: 8-5

Frank Beamer: 2-9

Joe Paterno: 5-5

As you can see some coaches have built programs and walked into success.  This shouldn’t be more difficult than Golden’s stint at Temple.  The fan base is being patient hoping that sooner than later Miami will add another national championship to their collection but they’ll take an ACC title for now.

News and Notes
