Notes from the Heat – LeBron and Arison

Miami Heat owner Micky Arison has surpassed Marlins outfielder Logan Morrison for the most worthy follow in south Florida.  He tweets about being at Club LIV or about his Halloween night.  Arison has more expensive tweets however.  A fan wrote Micky Arison on twitter saying “How’s it feel to be apart of ruining the best game in the world? NBA owners/players don’t give a damn about fans & and guess what? Fans provide all the money you’re fighting over & you greedy (expletive) pigs.”  A lot of us fans agree with what this tweet says but it was Arison’s reply that was shocking.  He replied simple “you’re barking at the wrong owner”. The tweet was soon deleted but not before 100s of retweets.  That tweet goes against everything Stern has been saying about all the owners who are united as one.  Billy Hunter of the NBPA has stated that Arison, Mark Cuban, James Dolan, and Jerry Buss are on the player’s side and would like the lockout lifted as soon as possible.  Which makes me wonder why the four of them don’t get together and let their opinions be heard.  While I understand it’s no small fee they should not be punished for having great teams.  Stern has let owners who don’t belong own a team in the NBA and now they’re saying that they’re losing money.  Not sure if they noticed but everyone in this economy is losing money.  Stern says he wants a more balanced league.  The league hasn’t ever been balanced.  Since 1980 only 9 teams have won the NBA finals and the 9th team came this year when the Dallas Mavericks won it all.  I was optimistic about the lockout being lifted at first, and I still think that we will start seeing games around Christmas time, but I wonder how much of that is hope.  Do you really believe Dan Gilbert cares if there is a season or not this year?  We don’t know what’s going on behind closed doors, but if I’m an owner who wants basketball I’m letting my voice be heard.

LeBron James made news again as usual, but this time however he did it by recruiting.  His first tweet says “Would love to see @JCrossover in a Heat uni! What u guys say?”  For those of you who don’t know that’s the twitter account of Heat killer Jamal Crawford.  Crawford would provide a nice spark off the bench and while Mike Miller gets healthy the two of them with Udonis Haslem off the bench makes this team even deeper and can put them over the top.  Later on James sent another tweet out that said “Maybe @SteveNash in a Heat uni! So we could help each other get our 1st ring”. Needless to say that’s Steve Nash’s twitter account.  While either addition would be great and could easily put the Miami Heat over the top, neither one of them could have helped take rebounds from Tyson Chandler in the NBA Finals.  The Heat were close to signing Eddy Curry last year but didn’t pull the trigger and he has been working hard with LeBron and has said he wants to resurrect his career in a Heat Uniform.  The Heat also spent a 2nd round pick on center Dexter Pittman.  Pittman is a 6’11 skilled big man who has lost over 100 lbs and is still losing more and getting ready to contribute.  Udonis Haslem gave a lot of credit to him on being able to come back on the court and compete in the playoffs.  Nobody on the Miami Heat is affected as much as Pittman.  So while its great LeBron is trying to recruit either Crawford or Nash and both players would be key contributors, maybe LeBron should send a tweet to @Tysonchandler and see if he’ll want to help take his rebounds to South Beach.
